Kala Bharati has acquired a considerable amount of print and audio-visual material related to Indian culture, and more specifically, to Indian dance.

Persons from different walks of life and various universities, colleges and schools have used the resources and services of the documentation center. One of the long-term projects in progress at Kala Bharati is the documentation of the work of the dance Gurus U.S. Krishna Rao and U.K. Chandrabhaga Devi.

The Resource Centre has the following :

  over three hundred books on Indian culture, arts, music and dance;
  a collection of audio-visual material consisting of video, music tapes, slides and photographs;
  educational material;
  objects of art and artefacts;
  costumes, dresses, etc.;
  a group of volunteers who act as resource persons on topics related to culture, religion, languages and socio-political matters of India.



In the context of teaching and presenting Indian dance outside the country of origin, such a center provides a much-needed service. It is important, therefore, not only to have this valuable facility but to raise the consciousness, regarding its importance, among those involved in imparting the learning culture-specific art forms.
