Ever since its first appearance in Montreal in September ’82, La Troupe Kala Bharati has performed regularly in Montreal and has contributed much to the dance scene locally. It has given several full length performances every year. Apart from the traditional repertoire the troupe has presented Mamata Niyogi-Nakra’s unique choreographies with specific members in mind including the male dancers she has trained. The items range from the solos such as Arjuna, Vandana, pas de deux, Aalapana, Shive or group items Tillanas, Dasavatara, etc., as well as full length thematic pieces, such as Seasonscape, Kriya Marga, Padukarchana, Tradition and Beyond, Dansjazz-ku, etc.

Kala Bharati's work is rooted in the belief that excellence in art is a reflection of the vitality of that culture. The pursuit of this goal has made Kala Bharati dancers reach greater heights of proficiency and thus are much sought after by the artistic and cultural milieu.

Performances by La Troupe Kala Bharati have been seen in several cities in Canada, notable among these are, City of Quebec, Sherbrooke, Drummondville, Hull, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, and Saskatoon, etc., as well as in India, Martinique and the U.K. The choreography in group formation has been internationally acclaimed.
