Indian Doordarshan TV offering: Seasonscape by La troupe Kala Bharati

A noteworthy achievement by any account was the invitation in 1997, received by La Troupe Kala Bharati from the Central Production Centre of Doordarshan in Delhi for an hour- long of Bharata Natya performance to be recorded for telecast in India in connection with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Indian Independence.

Partly funded by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Doordarshan, La Troupe Kala Bharati with 14 dancers presented the different choreographies of Mamata Niyogi-Nakra for recording at the Delhi studios of CPC Doordarshan in December ’97.

SEASONSCAPE as recorded in Delhi was telecast on August 13, 1998 on the Indian national TV network as part of a week-long series of special programmes of music and dance leading tothe closing of the 50th anniversary celebrations. Following the very positive response to the telecast on August 13, SEASONSCAPE was chosen to be re-telecast on August 15 (Indian Independence day) immediately after the Prime Minister’s speech to the nation as part of the official closing ceremonies. Doordarshan International Division telecast SEASONSCAPE on their world-wide network on October 6, 1998 which was picked up and relayed in Canada by ATN.

These telecasts seen by millions in India and throughout the world constitute rarely acheived high points of La Troupe Kala Bharati’s perfomance record.
